Westport Manor
A Revival-Style Tudor in Westport: Timeless Elegance
I turn to this 1925 Revival-style Tudor in Westport, CT, as a favorite, less than 10 miles from where I was raised. This "before and after" involved seamlessly integrating new elements into an authentic Belgian-style home.
With rough, reclaimed beams overhead and rugged limestone tiles underfoot, I aimed to create an informal home that exudes timelessness. From the moment you touch the authentic brass hardware on the tiny original French doors to the communal kitchen design centered around a black and brass La Canche range, the goal was to design a welcoming atmosphere.
Old Ludowici roof tiles were sourced to expand the manor, making room for family-style living. Custom zinc scupper boxes were handcrafted in one of the few bedrooms that remained intact during the expansion.
Inspired by vintage European country estates, my time living in Paris allowed me to appreciate the subtleties of Belgian style. This influence is seen in the use of waxed woods, old roof tiles, and cerused white oak beams with a chalky gray wash that adds a timeless feel to the new additions.
